Hurrayyyyyyyyy!!! WINDOWS 7 is here………

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Good News is after a long wait; finally Windows 7 is on the shelf today. Need to see how it’s going to impact software industry at large and how it will spur IT spending by companies.

Windows 7 has most compelling features, Performance improvements, Windows Media Center, faster search, draws less power, and has Windows Touch and ReadyBoost. Windows 7 is less memory hungry than Windows Vista. It has many Safety and Security features like BitLocker, Parental Controls, and like Vista comes with User Account Control, Windows Defender and Firewall, with improved features. Even old timers like Calculator, Paint and Wordpad have been given new touch.

As usual it has many editions to choose from, Home, Premium, Ultimate.

I have been using only windows since its 3.1 days and have used virtually all its versions, and have seen it growing. Windows is the most criticized, yet most successful OS. Most Window loyalists would have never used other OS, but all other OS loyalists have used Windows. I am very excited to see its new version and waiting for an opportunity to install and use daily.

But all said about it, it’s sad that I still have not installed it on my PC and only evaluated on virtual machine. I have my reasons.

My home laptop pre-bundled with Vista Home Premium has many software utilities from the manufacturer. I don’t want to load a new version of OS and search for the compatible drivers and utilities for this new version. On that I cannot be spending couple of hundred $$$ just to browse internet, emails, watch movies, listen music, use messengers and do social networking.

We have Windows 7 from volume licenses, so I should have at least installed on my office laptop, which has Vista – Business. But I have been using my current laptop since a year and is loaded with so many software and have set up the development environments for so many projects I have been working, I don’t want to disturb it and take the hassles of reinstalling each software, which could take virtually 2 days of effort.

I wait for now, for an opportunity to install and use Windows 7. You all enjoy its release and celebrate, rest wait for Service Packs. ALL THE BEST – WINDOWS 7 & MICROSOFT.
